Big V8 sedan to drive cross-country in

A regular reader of this blog plans to one day fly to America, buy a big honkin' V8 sedan, and drive cross-country.  Might I suggest an early '90s Buick Roadmaster?  Just make sure the A/C works.  Here is an example for sale.

Just bought a '93 LS400 for this very reason - now I need to start planning that road trip.

@Alan: Wooh, nice. That is a sweet, sweet ride.

Thanks. Bought it on the cheap just for a fun trip with the wife but it might be a keeper, it's got a real seductive quality about it.

One owner, always garaged, low mileage, loaded, stack of receipts, like new - cost about as much as a new 55" HDTV!
Maybe not as cool as an old 7 series or S class but it will never, ever break.

Doing some research apparently the 1UZFE has 6 bolt mains and is based on an IRL motor!

Excellent suggestion! Initially I was thinking of something as common (and boring?) as a 4th gen Caprice. Ultimately the it'll come down to what's available for the right price and in good enough shape.

@Edvin: I would be really careful with the Caprice. 90% of the remaining Caprices left are super high mileage former police cars and taxi cabs. I drove a high mileage 4th generation Caprice police car (it was well maintained but was so iffy in feel that the department took off the light bar and was just using it as a support vehicle) and I would NOT drive that thing long distance.

With this Roadmaster, the only people who own them now are very old senior citizens.

Unfortunately, all of the smaller Buicks-- Regals, Park Avenues, etc.-- have been purchased by 22 year old thugs (or wanna be thugs) and shod with 22" rims.

Thanks for the tips, that's just the sort of things you don't come to think of on this side of the globe. Will have to consult you a bit later. :)
